Bulking up in the offseason

Emily just got out of her 3 week checkup, and is up to a healthy 6 lbs, 6 oz. She's also grown another inch, so she's at 20.5". She remains a voracious eater, and has now started talking to herself. Right now it's mostly grunts and squeals. It's like having a capuchin monkey in the house, except without any of the downsides.

At 2:55 this afternoon, our sweet little baby came into the world. She's 6 lbs even, and is quite beautiful. Pictures to come later tonight or early tomorrow. We'll be moving to maternity in a few minutes.

Drum Roll Please...

Most of you already know we think we are expecting a girl! It came as quite a surprise to me when we had the ultrasound last week. I guess after years of boys, God thought the Wymans might have some fun with a girl. So Doodle Bug is now Emily Adelaide. We are doing the nursery in a frog and bugs theme. We are painting the walls green and the bedding is going to be sage green. That way if the ultrasound tech missed something and Emily comes out a Benjamin, we will not have change the room too much. Emily is developing fine. She weighs about 10 ounces. She was moving around quite a bit, kicking her legs all around. Maybe we have a future soccer player here. I have started to feel her moving around a bit, but no big kicks yet!

My First Baby Shower

Yesterday was the last day of school and I was ready to be done.  On Wednesday the school threw the 4th grade teacher and me a surprise wedding/baby shower.  All the families of the school gave me some of their favorite books.  So I brought home a basket filled with all kinds of wonderful books.  Doodle Bug has his/her own library.  My favorite was a Dick and Jane book one of my former Kindergarten student gave me.  Inside it said, "Thank you for teaching me to read."

Life is good

Saturday was the start of my second trimester. I am starting to feel better and have more energy. The school year is winding down. My Kindergarteners graduated last week and I have only a few more days with my other students. For Art Class last week, my kindergarteners drew me pictures of their favorite part of Kindergarten. Here is one of my favorites:

Yes, the top drawing is a picture of me having the baby! Notice the smile on my face. The bottom drawing is Jonathan and I standing next to the crib. Gotta love Kindergarteners!

Introducing Doodle Bug

Here is our first baby photo. Doodle Bug was quite active at first, but decided to take a nap after a few minutes. We were able to see the heart beating. Notice his/her hand next to the face. Jonathan thinks the baby was picking its nose, but I think that maybe the baby was sucking its thumb. We will be able find out if the baby is a Benjamin or Emily in about six weeks.

We have an ultrasound tomorrow morning. Check back for Doodle Bug's first baby pictures. By the way, Doodle Bug is what we are calling the baby until we know whether it will be Benjamin or Emily.

Ahh, health care....

So we got the first denied claim of the pregnancy. Apparently the doctor's office managed to correctly write down the insurance information, but the lab 50 feet away didn't. Classic.

On the plus side, the man at Anthem got things straightened out quickly and did a great job. And for those of you who know me, the fact that I'm saying nice things about BCBS is significant.

Heartbeat

Got to hear the heartbeat on Friday. Wow. It was amazing.
